Creating Your First Hometurf
A hometurf is your running route — a trail, park loop, or city circuit that you know well and want to share with others. Think of it as your signature route where you're the local expert.
What You'll Need
Before starting, have these ready:
- A clear route in mind (or a GPX file from Strava/Garmin)
- A Google Maps link to your meeting point
- A quick description of what makes your route special
The Creation Wizard
Creating a hometurf is a 3-step guided process.
Step 1: Data Source
Choose how to provide your route path and visuals:
- GPX Upload: Best for precise routes with elevation data. Supports standard GPX files.
- Manual Entry: Quick setup when you don't have a map track.
- Route Image: Choose between a Generated Route Image (from your GPX data) or Upload Custom Image.
Step 2: Route Details
Fill in the essential statistics:
- Hometurf Name — Something memorable (e.g., "Sunset Park Loop").
- Description — What can runners expect? (Scenery, vibe, challenges).
- Run Length — Distance in kilometers.
- Elevation — Total vertical climb in meters.
- Surface — Road, Trail, or Mixed.
- Default Pace — Your typical pace (optional).
Step 3: Location
- Meeting Point — Paste a Google Maps URL to your meeting point.
- External Route Links — (Optional) Add links to Strava, Garmin, Komoot, or AllTrails. These will appear in the "More" (⋮) menu on your hometurf and run details for other participants.
Explorable vs. Private
When you create a hometurf, it is Explorable by default. This means:
- It appears on the "Discover Hometurfs" map.
- Other runners can follow your hometurf to get notified of upcoming runs.
If you make it Private, it will only be visible when you explicitly schedule a run on it. You can toggle this anytime from your hometurf's menu (⋮ → Make Private).
What's Next?
Once your hometurf is created:
- Schedule your first run — Pick a date and time.
- Watch for runners — They'll receive notifications and start joining.
- Meet and run! — Lead the experience.
